Skylar doesn't need a man in her life. She has a nice home, a career teaching art, and a cat named John Mayer. Still, she feels like she's missing something. After her niece Alex calls with a big announcement on New Year's Day, Skylar finds a photo of her fun, carefree week in Mexico where she laughed, danced, and let a man love her as a vacation fling.
As she reminisces on her wild trip to Cancun, Skylar wonders what life might have been like if she'd have kept in touch with José Mateo, as he'd asked. Or if she'd let herself trust again, and taken more chances on love.
But she's an orphan now, the last of her nuclear family, and it's taken everything she has to keep her life together these last few years. Dating at her age, even looking for a companion, would only complicate things.
When a second chance meeting with José reignites all of the old feelings, Skylar will have to decide if she's going to stick to her old, safe routine. Or, if she can remember the young, adventurous version of herself—the one who had big goals and lofty dreams—and let a man love her for more than a week.
